Day 56, Oct 26th 2018
After being held in the pen for what seemed like forever we were off and my calf went again 1.4miles in. I was gutted, well, devastated, I have never had a DNF (did not finish, not all y readers are sporty;) ). My poor running buddy had to sprint to catch up with some other friends, i felt awful afterwards, never seen her look so tired after a run. Anyways, I stopped my Garmin, as you do, text my physio, then hubby, priorities right?
As I limped back to the start, a couple, supporting the runners, asked if they could help and were kind enough to give me an ice pack, pain killers and a pain killer patch. The ice probably helped more than anything, especially in the long term. They were a god send, they really were
Roll forward to Wednesday and I say the physio again, and, as feared, I had re-torn my calf. ugh, give me a break. After a painful massage, laser treatment, and advice, it was back to recovery. I was feeling so despondent. Fundraising is not going well, training is not going at all, brain is panicking. How can i train and increase distance slowly if i can't every run 5k!!! Physio gave me more strengthening and stretching exercises, heel dips, calf stretches with resistance bands (gently) and permission to use the elipitical machine to train on for a while to keep my fitness up. Ok, I have a plan, but I still felt deflated. I know this injury will take some time to overcome, so I cancelled my planned race on Sunday, bailed out of Club Champs, and am intending to take things easy for a while. I need to recover fully before hitting my training again. With the cold weather fast approaching, maybe its not a bad thing 😉
